Little Hexie Quilt Done

I have finished all the sewing of my little quilt made with 3/8" hexies and it almost makes me sad. I think there are over 700 pieces in this quilt - all basted and stitched by hand.

When I saw it in the magazine I thought they had displayed it in an old window, but after looking at it more closely I think it's just a picture frame - so now I'm on the hunt for one at the thrift store that I can paint and distress before using it. I need an 18" x 24" frame but can't decide if I want glass in it or not.

This shows the back of the quilt - lots of bulk there with the seam allowances folded over - which is why it won't actually be quilted. I don't even think I'm going to take the papers out - the stiffness will be helpful while framing it. I kind of envy Kathy - of Kindred Quilts. She's just starting this same design so stop over and see how she's doing.

Now I'm making fussy cut diamonds to sew along with the Temecula Quilt Co. I've got quite a few of them made, but I'm not sure if they'll all actually be used since I don't know how they'll be sewn together yet and I don't know if they'll all play together nicely. It's been fun learning to look at fabric a little differently for this project. And since there is so much waste with the fussy cutting I can't quite bring myself to buy fabric that costs $10-$12/yd - so I've been shopping at JoAnn Fabrics and Hancock's for potential pieces.

I love it! This beauty of yours has been an inspiration for me, and I am really enjoying the quiet evenings of hand sewing all those little hexies! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you find the perfect frame!

Incredible. Not only the work to make it, but having it come out so cute in the end. Fabric choices are everything. I just got bit by the EPP bug, and am trying the Lemoyne Star. I've never done this kind of thing before, so its a challenge!

Amazing, Gayle! Let's see, you made this for our next quilt exchange, right?? : )
What a wonderful look to have it in a distressed frame!
You have made quite a nice bunch of diamond stars.
Those Temecula SALs can be quite irresistible. I am trying to be strong!

We have to pay more than double in the Netherlands for a yard of fabric. It is crazy, I don't throw anything away that is bigger than a stamp! Love how your hexy quilt turend out, it will look great in a nice frame!

Great job with these hexies! Aren't they addictive?!? I wouldn't have known those were JoAnn fabrics. I think their $7.99 (or something like that) a yard fabric is fine. It's cheaper because you aren't paying for a designer name not because the fabric is of poor quality. Look forward to seeing what you do with those stars and the hexies framed!

Your hexis look great, but aren't you worried that the papers will hurt the fabric in the long term? I know framers use acid free paper so that the art work is not damaged over time. The framers use this foam like board to "stretch" out textiles and give it a firm surface, you might be able to buy a piece from them, or use something similar from an art supply shop? You then tack some really wide fabric on as "borders" and stretch it over and to the back of the board then stitch it together eg like lace up behind an old fashion gown. You Tube might be a good source of information re framing textiles as well? Fussy cut stars are gorgeous, I am resisting starting another EPP project, but very tempted.

Such tiny pieces in the hexagon quilt. Were they hard to work with because of the small size? All sewn together, they make a wonderful smaller size piece.

Oh, I love this!! What a gorgeous hexie quilt. I invite you to post it at Hexie Weekend so more can see it. And the next one looks fab too.

Trust me! Those stars do play nice together!! Love it! The girls who designed that hexie star mini come to the Des Moines Show and I could swear they use a real window for their frames. Either way, I would just use whatever works and it will be lovely! So pretty!

So, I need to set up an HP printer for my printing needs. Structuring an HP printer is a hard task, so some users need a 123.hp.com/envy5540 technical specialist. I am using my technical knowledge to set up an HP printer, but I am imperfect in finishing the setup process of my printer.
