Projects

I've been busy as a bee stitching up several different projects. Today I made this little quilt that measures 9" x 11".  While looking around the house for a good place to photograph it, I discovered how nice it looks with some of my yellowware bowls. The ones with blue stripes have always been my favorite and I have many of them. It was fun to find the perfect striped fabric which I fussy cut for the sashing between the rows.

It worked up quickly since I had the pieced blocks left over from a small quilt I made for Lauren a couple years ago. Only had to make two extra and I had enough. I can never remember if these are hourglass blocks or broken dishes....

Last week I finally gifted DD#2 with a completed quilt. She will use it mostly for TV watching in the evenings when it feels chilly in her basement.

The colors are happy and it was a fun project to make for her, though it took me a lot longer than I thought it would. She was very patient with me and was very appreciative when I gave it to her.

I also stitched up a 'PLUS' quilt and gave it to the gal who does my hair. She's expecting a baby boy in June and told me the nursery colors are navy and gray. I think this will do the trick. She was very surprised when I showed up without an appointment to give it to her.

I quilted it with a simple and easy meandering design. 40" square.

I've finished the border on my hooked rug and I'm ready to tackle the remainder of the inside section.

I recently did a little cleaning in my studio and found six small crazy quilt blocks that I probably made 10+ years ago. I have no idea of what my original plan for them was, so I stitched them up similarly to a quilt I saw on a Facebook page. Not sure if the wool flowers and stems are showing up on such a busy background - any suggestions? Maybe I should unpick the stems and just have the applique in the center section? (please notice the mitered corners on the border - I haven't done that for ages!)

You have been busy, beautiful quilts and love the cross for a baby quilt, nice color combination.
I would leave the crazy quilting, having some show and some fade into the background makes a nice effect.

All your projects are great. I LOVE the mini Hour Glass quilt. Your daughter is a lucky girl to get such a pretty quilt. The repurposed Crazy Quilt blocks turned out wonderful, wouldn't change a thing!

I love your new mini, Gayle. And as far as I know, they are both hourglass and broken dishes blocks. Oh, I really want to make one, too!
Your daughter's quilt certainly is out of your normal zone, but you did a great job on it.
Your rug project is coming along beautifully.
I like the applique sprawling out over the crazy quilt blocks! Looks good to me. : )

And I love the rug with feathers and flowers, again, as always with great choice of colors! I hope you will bring some of your work to Clydene to show us if we stop by 3 weeks from now. I like the applique spilling over into the crazy quilt part. It's subtle, but makes you take a closer look.
The quilts are amazing! That plus one is simple but so effective! Whose pattern is that?
Love the little strippy and the quilt for DD!!

Your little hourglass quilt is perfectly, simply beautiful. And I love that you used leftovers to make it. I can't imagine working with such tiny pieces.

Your daughter's quilt is beautiful. I've been noticing borders lately (because I'm being challenged by one at the moment) and see that you added borders to only the top and bottom. What a great choice. And your plus quilt is wonderfully bright and graphic. Perfect for a baby boy.

Your little applique block.... What if you added a black outline around the flowers that you think disappear against the scrappy blocks behind them? But anyone who looks and follows the stems will see the flowers there.

Wonderful pieces, Gayle!

Great finishes, especially love the navy plus sign quilt, what a great combination of colour and pattern, very effective. The mini is also very sweet and looks perfect amongst your bowls.

You really have been working on a lot. Your mini hourglass is super sweet and looks awesome with your wondeful collection of yelloware. Your daughters quilt is modern and fresh. Just perfect for a young person. The border for your rug is so colorful and energizing. And then there's the plus baby quilt which is darling and again perfect for a modern young mom. I'm sure she was thrilled beyond words. Navy and grey make a great color combo. Great work all around. Oh, and I'd leave the applique meandering. It's whimsical and unexpected.

WOW! You've been busy. I love your mini quilt and I have mine hanging in my hooking room to see/admire it daily. The quilt for DD is cool, but I really love the quilt for the gal who does your hair. What a thoughtful gift. And your rug!!! I am in love with your border. Sure do love everything in this post.

Hey thanks for visiting my blog today! I'm glad I came over to yours, you are a very impressive quilter and rug hooker! It was very thoughtful of you to give a quilt to your hairdresser, it's so darling - those are the best surprises! I can tell I'm gonna have to start following you so I can keep up with my quilting, I do find it hard to be inside when the weather is so nice outside but I have so many tops that need to be quilted and I really don't have any excuses since i have my own long arm haha, time to get busy!

Have a great day!

Playing catch up again, always it seems!
Loved your pot!

Thinking the green stems are lost on the crazy blocks, maybe remove them, and put flowers right against the main stem in the center?
I really love the other quilts, esp. that very small one with the yellow ware bowls.
