Small Quilts

I got my tumbler all quilted and bound - now I'm not crazy about the inner green border that I used so I might end up tea dyeing the quilt like Cheri Payne does to all of hers - that should tone it down a bit and soften all the other colors too.

You might be able to see the vertical wavy quilting lines that I used. The quilt finished at 17" x 24".

While my machine was set up for free motion quilting, I decided to finish this little HST quilt too - it's been waiting for several months.

I really like the curved line quilting that I did on each side of each triangle. This quilt finished at 16" x 16".

I was looking through the pictures on my digital camera, and realized that I hadn't shared these yet. Hubby was off work for three weeks in December because he had accumulated too much vacation time to carry over to the new year - he had to use it or loose it. So we took a little trip before Christmas and went south where we thought it would be a little warmer (HA!)  After we explored Hoover Dam I talked him into visiting a darling quilt shop in Boulder City Nevada called Fiddlesticks Quilts.  I snapped these pictures which were the results from a small quilt challenge that the store sponsored and I thought you'd enjoy seeing them. Wish I'd jotted down the sizes, but I don't think any of them were more than 20" on a side.

I'm not sure if prizes were awarded, but it sure was fun to see the creativity involved in making them. This one was in a window display and I liked it too.

We also explored a bit of the State Park called Valley of Fire after learning about it from my friend Nedra, who blogs at Cactus Needle Quilts. The summer temperatures can reach 120 degrees, so December was a good time to go. We hiked around in some of the cool rock formations a bit - - - -

- - - - and as we were driving out of the park we saw several mountain sheep to the side of the road. These posed very nicely for me!

Hi Gail, I love all the little quilts that you made and the one you found on your trip. I especially love the red one in the third from last photos. I love the pattern. Some of them look like a lot of work with tiny squares. It must take a lot of patience.

How lucky for you that your hubby has accumulated some extra vacation days so you could go explore.

I wish I would have a chance to visit the Valley of Fire State national Park. It looks so interesting and you took some great photos. You have peeked my curiosity and I had to go look this up on Google. Just amazing...
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend.

Those tiny quilts are fascinating! Yours as well as the ones in the shop. Thanks for sharing those photos. I am always amazed at the intricate work. It's cool that you have your own quilting machine. I really like how you did the quilting on the ones you showed here. Travel pictures are wonderful! There are so many places in the SW we want to see - maybe soon!!!

Your tumbler quilt is wonderful, Gayle.
I have some things I want to tea dye, too. I have never done it before, so I am a little hesitant.
Oh, look at all those cute little quilts.
I don't think I've heard of Valley of Fore, but it looks like a very cool place!

I love your little quilts. I think the green inner border looks good, but tea or coffee will instantly age the whole thing.
Your trip looks terrific. Awesome photo of the mtn goats!!

You are just on a roll! I think your tumbler looks great - have you used the Instant Antique from Primitive Gatherings? I use it all the time and really like it. Thanks for the little quilt show - looks like a fun shop to visit!

I love these little quilts. The intricate piecing just amazes me. I think the one in your first photo is great. The green makes the center pop.

Love your beautiful little quilts and the picture of the Mountain sheep. We are always looking for them but never found them so far. We will be in the Provo area for 2 days in April staying with our friends. We have no idea yet what their plans are for that time. If we can't meet this time I am sure there will be another when we have more time in Utah!

Your tumbler looks great. Keep us posted on the tea dyeing. What have you got to lose, if you're not completely happy. I like the wavy line quilting too. Great vacation pictures. Sounds like an interesting place to visit but not in the summer!
