Orange Peel

I've had this little quilt done for a few days now, but haven't had time to post a picture of it until now. The binding is only 1/4" wide which is much narrower than I usually use because I didn't want to cut off any portion of the outside blocks.

I love the way it turned out - the quilting was done with mono-filament thread - both clear and smoke colored. The blocks are 4" and the finished size is 24" square.

After it was done I tried to find a good home. Tried it on the coffee table in front of the couch.

And then I thought I'd try to display it - along with some other quilts - by pinning it to the railing just inside the front door - as you go up the steps to the living room.

Added a few more - because more is always good - right?

Which do you like best?

And on another note - we have a mouse in the house for the first time in 33 years - YIKES! Have set a couple traps, but can still hear him rustling around when the house is still and quiet. Can any of you advise me on the best way to get rid of him? I sure don't want to worry about him all winter long! Yuck.

Very nice Orange Peel Gayle! Love the 24 inch size! All those quilts look so cute hanging together on the railing... must take people awhile to get up the stairs to the living room with so much eye candy to look at first! Now I must add an Orange Peel quilt to my list of to-do-someday!

Love the orange peel quilt. Did you use a pattern? Hand or machine pieced? I like it best on the coffee table with all the other little quilts on the railing. What a feast for the eyes!

We had a mouse this Fall. We set out a trap nightly but mice are tricky. The trap would go off and wake us up, but there was no mouse. My BIL came to town and took on the challenge. He caught not one BUT two!

Love your little quilts as well!

I LOVE that orange peel quilt, Gayle. It looks nice on the coffee table. I also like it on the railing, but prefer just the four quilts there. Just MHO. : )
Oh, good luck with the mouse. We had a couple inside when we first moved here 28 years ago, but nothing lately. Mice are tricky, but I think eventually they do get caught. Here's hoping!!

I grew up on a farm, all our mouse traps were those cheap wooden ones with steel claws, that nearly take your fingers off when you set them, but they work and are cheap....important because I just chuck the whole lot in the bin...who wants to touch a mouse! For bait my father always used pumpkin seeds and bacon fat (smells), but dont know how he got the seeds to sit still. Good luck nothing worse then a critter inside! Love your little quilt, like it hanging up, but with on a few companions so you can see it in full.

I love it on the coffee table too, it is beautiful. All are so pretty, I can't pick a favorite!

Eek, hate invaders. No advice, but hope you get it, try some peanut butter spread on whatever bait you choose. It works on the bigger rodents.

What an enchanting quilt, Gayle! Love it! And I also love how you display all your little gems. Very creative and it certainly makes for a welcome greeting. Sorry to hear about the mouse!

Gayle, your little Orange Peel quilt is just so beautiful and I love how you arrange the colors to balance so well. It's pleasing to the eyes. You sure did a great job on it.

It looks lovely on the coffee table. They are all so nice displayed together too. You need a mini quilt display rack. Is there such a thing?

Mice usually travel along the walls and I've caught some in the garage with those cheap wooden mouse traps with the spring as Sue SA mentioned. I use peanut butter for bait. I place the trap against the wall so that the mouse will have to walk into it. I use two traps ate strategic places. I've also used some cheese for bait.
Hoper that you can catch the little critter. Don't be surprise if it came with a mate.
Good luck

Your quilt really turned out wonderful, Gayle.
And having had mice in St. G, and after calling my Pest Control Guy, he set regular wood mouse traps traps (can be purchased at the hardware store) with peanut butter, and placed them by the cupboards where they entered the house.
Caught them all :)

Love all your quilts and the new way you have dispalyed them going up the stairs. Remember mice have family if you see one there are usually more!!

What a fantastic quilt Gayle! I like it on the coffee table. I rarely have a surface space in my house that doesn't have a quilt or wool applique piece on it.
When we've had mice in the past I use the cheap traps with peanut butter. It seems that is a little harder to get off. Good luck!

My cat had one laying on my hooked rug this morning when I came down stairs.

Hi Gayle!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment~I love those!
I love your blog! Are you ever creative! Lately I feel like I'm more of a "collector" than a quilter...not accomplishing much. I really need to focus on finishing things rather than looking for something new. I actually have that same quilt, only I haven't put the "peels" on yet. You're inspiring me!
And I would love to rug hook, but just can't justify another hobby right now! There's a great little group here that is so welcoming and so helpful. I go once in awhile and really enjoy it.
sorry about the mouse...ick.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Oh my! I love your little quilt! It looks lovely. I've wanted to make on for a long time but have never tried because they always looked hard. Now that I see how you did yours, I think I could do that. Where did you find your pattern, I was just wondering about the sizes.

Have a wonderful and Blessed day
Kristie

Found your lovely blog by way of Taryn over at Repro Quilt Lovers - what a great example of a little quilt! Love your colors and think you have found the perfect spot for displaying it.

About that little mouse - we live in the country and every fall can count on one or two little critters looking for a cozy place to winter over. My husband always puts just a tiny dab of peanut butter on the traps and we have had great success...choosey quilters choose Jif but you can use Skippy too :o)

I have often given thought to making an Orange Peel quilt but haven't done it. Yours is a nice size to give it a try without a big commitment.

Peanut butter on the cheap traps is the best way to go....at least it has been for us.

Love your Orange Peel quilt. I've always wanted to make one but didn't want to do the curved piecing. Love your adaptation.

I like the quilts on the railing~and I think the more the merrier! I really like the thin binding.
As far as the mouse goes~we get a lot of mice in the country, and we've found that contrary to popular belief, they don't all love cheese. Some prefer raisins (Cram it in the trap so it sticks really well) and some really like peanut butter. So if the bait you're using doesn't seem to work, switch it up.

Love your quilt Gayle! I have not made an orange peel one. I hate mice! Tricky little fellas, for sure. Haven't had one in this house but I found that peanut butter on a trap worked the best. When I used cheese he (or she) just grabbed it and ran. Best of luck. Wish they were as cute as the ones in Cinderella! Thanks for visiting me. Now following you.
Hugs,
Jann

We used to live out in the country and had mice all the time. Now we have a problem with squirrels.
Love your quilt!
