Memory Lane

I've made quite a few small quilts this year because I plan to have a gallery wall of them in the guest room eventually. Awhile ago I pulled out some small quilts that I made years ago so I could include them in the wall display, and one of them really took me back.

I was part of a small quilt group - we called ourselves Thimble Minded Friends - and for one of our projects we paper pieced rows of thimbles (so appropriate, huh?) and then exchanged them. Each of us finished the project in our own way. When they were done we were really pleased with ourselves and we ended up submitting pictures of them to a now defunct magazine called Miniature Quilts. They printed a story about our group and included pictures of all our little thimble quilts. It was a fun fun time - about 12 years ago! Below is the magazine cover and the story pages.......

How cool is that to be in the magazine--which I remember. I was not into minis at the time, but my Mother had purchased it a few times thinking she would start making them. She never has.
I like your quilt--how large are the thimbles?
I hope you will share photos of your gallery as it comes together.

Loved that magazine. I bought about 30 of them at an auction 8 years ago and treasure all of them...right now they are packed up in a box and in storge till February as we will be moving into our new then and when I set up my sewing room I will hopefully find that issue! Great little quilt, Gayle.

What a sweet memory that little quilt brought back to you.
Congratulations about being featured in that magazine and sorry to hear that it has been discontinued. I'm glad that you have a copy of the magazine at least.

I would like to see your wall of quilts as well.
Thanks for sharing.

What fun. How sweet they are. Geez, you've been in a magazine at least twice that I know of and on TV, too, wasn't it? You are somewhat of a celebrity!
Hugs :)

what a neat quilt and awesome that your group was featured in that magazine. Also congrats on your weight loss triumph - I'm in the same boat packing on the weight over the years and just realizing it was detrimental to my health and well being. thank for sharing your victory - you are an inspiration and look great ! cheers Melody

It is so interesting to see how each person took the same central design and then made the little quilt their own with the borders. Wonderful miniature pieces.
It would be difficult to get everyone in my small quilting group to work on the same project.

Ah, this is darling! I know yours must be a fun blog with the darling Ms. Janet O. commenting at the top! She'd made a tumbler quilt recently that caught my eye and spurned me to give it a try. Fun piece!! :)
