Oops!

The toilet in our main bathroom has been acting persnickity lately - you'd have to jiggle the handle once in awhile to get it to shut off. Hubby & I finally got tired of dealing with it and we bought a brand new handle and chain with the hopes that replacing it would fix the problem. Last night hubby installed it - easy job, right? He was tightening the screw by hand - not much pressure at all - when suddenly the porcelain tank broke from the top clear down to the bottom. Now I'm not sure how many gallons of water it holds - maybe 5 or 6 - but all that water ended up on the bathroom floor! Can you say disaster? Sheesh! We got it all mopped up and found we had been 'lucky' because very little of it seeped over the door thresholds into the hallway or into our bedroom. We're not sure if we can just replace the tank, or if we'll have to replace the entire toilet, but you can bet this project is right at the top of the to-do list! I'm so glad we have a second bathroom downstairs!

Oh yeah - and when I got on the electronic scales to weigh myself this morning, I discovered that I had lost 15 pounds over night! (yeah right) Looks like we'll need a new one of those too cuz the water must have damaged it somehow. It's always something, huh?

It must have been awful to see that happen--and then clean it up. Luckily it was clean water! : )

Yikes!! Hey - your toilet looks exactly like ours!! We've been having problems with it not flushing properly lately and I've been bugging the DH to fix or replace....Hmmm...maybe I should have your hubby come over and "work on it" a bit so we can get a new one!! (And, hey - I'd be keeping that scale - why fix what isn't broken??) ;o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Sorry to hear about the toilet tank, but that hooked mat sure looks good on it.

Sorry about the mess but I really like the hooked mat on the tank! I have to show this to Rob 'cause this is exactly something he would do. Bless his heart.

Hmmm. I think the scale might be a keeper! Put it in your guest bath to entertain (or mystify) your guests! I agree with Katie...the hooked mat is gorgeous!

I agree... love that hooked mat! Been wanting to make one for the back of ours!
Sounds like your house has what ours has going on lately! All the old stuff wearing out! Glad you didn't have more damage than what you did!
I'd keep that scale though...... LOL!!

Been there, done that! It's always something in our house. At least it was "clean" water!

What a mess but at least the tank didn't decide to break when you weren't around.
Can I borrow your scale?
Hugs :)

Thank goodness you were home - can you imagine what a disaster if you had been gone - yikes! I would definitely keep those scales around - wish mine would have a change of heart!

I know how you feel, we had the same thing happen while changing out the handle! Seems like it is an easy thing to do (breaking the tank)...I mean.
I love the mat on the tank, too!

What a mess, Gayle! Five gallons of water seems like a lot when it is all over your floors, doesn't it? Looks like a new "throne" is in your future!!

Love your hooked rug in your bathroom.

We have a few recycled fixtures businesses in our area. If your toilet is not new that is an option.
Best of luck...K
