Painted Floorcloth

I got the bug to make something yesterday - you know how that is, right?  I had seen a hooked rug in a magazine that was a simple geometric design - a rectangle with concentric stripes going around the outside edges - and I decided to do something similar for my coffee table - except I made it a floor cloth instead of a hooked rug.

Have you ever made one of these? Traditionally they're made of heavy primed canvas fabric, but I make them out of linoleum scraps that I find at the thrift store. Works for me!

Amazingly, I took a couple pictures as I went along, so I'll post those as a tutorial in a day or two if anyone is interested.

Hubby & I went to see Secretariat last night at the dollar theater - it was a good one!

I've never made a floor cloth before. I've seen and heard about them. Using linoleum is a neat idea! Looks good!

Hi Gayle - I took an afternoon class and made one once - it was fun but probably won't do it again - the teacher was very patient with my lack of painting skills! Looks great!

I made 2 room-sized floor cloths when my kids were small so that I wouldn't have to worry about spaghetti sauce meeting carpeting. But I LOVE what you have done here - it's the perfect thing to put under your "treasure bowl", which is also amazing. Happy New Year, Gayle.

I would love to see a tutorial on your floor cloth--that is awesome. Also great idea to trade with someone--both projects look so good. Hope you are staying warm :) Julie

It looks great! I've always heard that floorcloths are not as hard as they look. To me, they look too hard so I've never tried it before. I've always envisioned big pieces for the floor but I could start out small for a coffee table like you did. I don't know about anyone else, but I would love to see a tut on it. Maybe I can try it this summer.
