Apron for Rug Hooking

It seems I only wear knit shirts these days, and sometimes when I'm working on a rug the grippers on my frame will grab the fabric of my shirt and snag it - not fun! I decided that wearing an apron might protect my clothing a bit so I made this one. When I found this tea towel with a sheep appliqued on it I decided it would be perfect for my project! I cut a curved area for the arms and added ties for the neck and waist. Then decided it would be fun to display some sheep pins and a miniature rug hook pin that I have accumulated over the last little while. I'm on the look-out for more to add to it, so if you see something similar would you please give me a holler?

I made the pin on the far left yesterday using muslin that I cut and sewed and painted - my friend Marilyn made the punch needle pin in the center - and I bought the miniature rug hook at Ivy Cottage in Colorado Springs a few years ago. The sheep pin down below I got at the Denver Hook-In a couple months ago. Good start to a new collection! The shiny square that you can't really see is a quilt block made of different colors of inlaid wood.

And this is what the towel looked like before I began altering it - it must have been made for Christmas because the word PEACE was embroidered on it - I just pulled out all the stitching. I thought the stars were a perfect touch!

I'll be leaving early tomorrow morning for the long drive to Rug Camp in California. It's about a 14 hour drive so I'll be breaking it up in to two days to make it more manageable. Don't know if I'll have time to post while I'm gone, so I'll see ya when I get home!

WOW - what an awesome apron you came up with out of a tea towel no less ! I love seeing hookers pin collections on their aprons. Enjoy that rug camp - I envy you going to california - I have always wanted to attend a west coast rug camp but it would mean a flight for me. Enjoy! Melody
