Our little quilt group met at Janet's house the other night - strangely enough there weren't many quilts to be seen. Instead we admired Janet's new lamp that she made using an old book that she altered a bit.....

...... and she walked us through making some small mixed media books using fabric, stamps, ink pads, buttons, zippers and rick rack. These are the ones she had worked up before our arrival so we'd have an idea of what the finished project would look like.

What a neat idea for a reading lamp. Very cool.

What a great way to reuse as well...

That's a cool idea for the lamp. It reminds me of trees that we would make out of old Reader's Digests at Christmas time. You'd fold a corner of the pages down, and then opened and glued covers together, you'd have a Christmas tree. My mom would spray paint it green and we'd put glitter on it while the paint was still wet.

How cute! I like the little books too! You could buy those 2 year planners and decorate them for family members for gifts.

I remember my mom making a Santa out of folding pages in a book like this (I think it was an old Reader's Digest book if I remember right) only you folded the pages in half to form a triangle. How fun to see this technique (sort of) done to make this lamp!
