Little Things & Authors

I still haven't  done any hooking lately, but I have been making a couple little projects with wool. I've made these three items: A Heart & Hand pinkeep from a Maggie B pattern that I stuffed with worm tails leftover from previous rug hooking projects, a daisy pinkeep from a Lisa Bongean pattern that I stuffed with ground walnut shells, and a darling little snippet bowl from a tutorial that Linda shared on her blog recently. They all worked up really quickly so I was able to feel a sense of accomplishment. FUN!

Last night I attended an event at my local library to see and hear the New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Chiaverini. Utah was the last stop of her current book signing tour of the country, and she said we had the biggest and friendliest crowd that she'd ever encountered. I've read nearly all of her books and enjoyed them. She spoke for about 30 minutes and then answered questions from the audience for about 10 minutes. After that people stood in line for who-knows-how-long to get their books autographed and visit with her, but I didn't stick around for that part since I don't own any of her books - I always get them at the library.

On another subject, I was at JoAnn Fabrics yesterday and was totally shocked to see my new favorite magazine on their stands - Primitive Quilts & Projects! I've subscribed to this since it's first issue and because it's what I call a 'grass roots publication', I didn't expect to see it at the mainstream retailers. Good for them! If you haven't seen this magazine yet, you might want to stop by and take a look!

Had to delete my first attempt. I didn't proofread it.
Gayle, I can't believe we were both there last night and didn't know to look for each other! How crazy! It never occurred to me to mention it on my blog before I went, or we might have figured it out. I've only read one of her books, but I went to meet up with a blog friend from Washington who drove down for it. I did stay for the signing--I bought one of those 3-in-1 volumes and I already had one of the pattern books that I brought with me. Sorry we missed that opportunity. I put photos on my blog, too--check it out.

Oh Gayle - I LOVE that little snippet bowl! So sweet!!! Nope - I haven't hooked anything yet either - and as the days tick down for the holidays and beginning of classes, it's not looking good. I'll have to check out our JoAnn's and see if they have the magazine - I've been wanting to check it out, but usually like to buy one or two issues before committing to subscribe, and haven't seen it in these parts. Thanks for the info. Have a great weekend! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Hello Gayle,

Love your new pinkeepers and the snippet bowl is so unique and cute. Love it . I met Jen Chiaverini ( wonderful books) back in 2000 when she attended a big quilt show in Lancaster, Penn. She joined us all at a huge family table at a Amish Restaurant and it was so neat talking with her and her family. Great that you got to listen to her talk too. Hugs Judy

Your wool projects turned out great, Gayle! Isn't the snippet bowl easy? I have made one more since posting it on the blog, and I'm thinking about making them for my sisters for Christmas...better get busy!!

I always love to read your posts and enjoy getting to share in all your rug hooking gatherings and projects :) Linda

That little snippets bag is really cute. And I've read quite a few of Jennifer's books. How fun to meet her in person.
