Keepsakes
I collect old cardboard suitcases and use them for storing various items in my studio - I like them SO much more than a plastic tote! One day I found an old metal suitcase that was pretty beat up and had several dents in it. I brought it home and decided to give it a little love - so I went through some old quilt magazines and cut out pictures of various quilts that appealed to me. Then I coated the surface with some Mod Podge and started attaching the pictures all willy nilly - followed that with another coat of Mod Podge. Inside of it I keep a lot of the birthday cards, Mother's Day cards and other little mementos that I have received through the years from my family and friends.

I sent some old suitcases to DI when we moved a few years ago, and now I wish I had given them to you!

Great idea Gayle! I, too, use old suitcases to stash treasures in - works wonders in a small home because your storage becomes part of your decor.....But you've "upped" it with the cute little modge-podged quilt treatment....LOVE it! Smiles & Hugs, Robin

ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to store your stitching / quilting supplies! I am one who uses the plastic totes -- but at least they are (for the most part) in cupboards and out of sight. Just bought some black fabric-colored containers at Target that hold the WIPs that aren't in the cupboards.

I didn't know you collected cardboard suitcases--so do I. I have them as far away as Paris to Washington state and New Zealand. We have covered hard suitcases for many years. I have 7 stacked in my bedroom and just 2 days ago got out a round one to put quilt cards on. Yours looks wonderful!!

ReplyDeleteLOVE it! Love the vintage, primitive look to it! I have kinda been on the lookout for old suitcases but not real hard. I can't believe I never thought of doing this.. what an awesome idea!
